Met Gala Fashion 2019- Decoded. Dare to Wear? 42

The world awaits for the Met Gala with baited breaths. You don’t need to be a fashion aficionado to understand or appreciate the nuances of fashion that are showcased in this event. The definition of couture plummets to a whole new inexplicable level altogether. And therefore the digital realm has a field day and so do the curators of everything absurd and unbelievable.

The Met Gala is essentially an annual benefit event for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. As the Magna Carta of fashion and all things glamorous, the Met Gala is also notoriously known for flashy and ostentatious looks that revolve around a theme that the Gala proposes every year.

The crème de la crème of the entertainment and fashion domains are invited to this high profile event, qualifying it as a spotlight stealer with the expensive tickets and extravagant appearances. The theme for 2019 was Camp: Notes on Fashion, inspired by photographer Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay, Notes on Camp.

The outfits worn by the celebrities are thus, representative of the theme. And more like an exhibition based on “irony, humor, parody, pastiche, artifice, theatricality and exaggeration”

The “camp” is basically connoted as a sensibility pertaining to decorative arts, and with the cultural explosion that has been witnessed in this millennia, there cannot be any more campiness in the present. This being the most optimum expression of the fashion pioneers in all the aplomb. Challenging the very discipline and aesthetics of fashion, the visual delight catered in the Met Gala 2019, is sure to rule the roost for long.

We have picked some of the most audacious and mindboggling outfits of the evening.
